On August 12, "Japan Night"—a networking event co-hosted by JCCNC, JETRO, and the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco—was held as part of "San Francisco International Week," organized by the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce. The event took place in the large conference room of Morrison & Foerster LLP in San Francisco's Financial District and drew a crowd of over 170 attendees.
The venue was filled with JCCNC members, San Francisco Chamber of Commerce members, and the general public. Many attendees were business professionals interested in Japan or startup entrepreneurs aiming to enter the Japanese market; true to the event's purpose, it was a resounding success that served as a bridge between Japan and the Bay Area.
The program began with opening remarks from Rodney Fung, President & CEO of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, followed by presentations from JCCNC Chairman Kazuhiro Gomi and JETRO’s Edward Ramsay, as well as a speech by Consul General Kotaro Ohtsuki of the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco. The Japanese cuisine and the selection of sake, wine, and soft drinks served at the party were all provided through the sponsorship of Japanese and Japanese-affiliated companies. This offered a wonderful opportunity for many attendees to experience and appreciate Japanese food culture.
When the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce first invited us to participate in International Week, we had initially envisioned a small-scale event. However, considering the significant business presence and contributions of Japanese individuals and companies in the Bay Area, we decided to change course and host a grand party that truly reflected that substantial presence. While we faced numerous challenges during the preparation phase—ranging from developing the plan within a tight timeframe to handling negotiations and logistical arrangements—we were able to successfully hold the event thanks to the cooperation of many, including the JCCNC secretariat.
On the day of the event, we received tremendous support from numerous volunteers; it was a truly meaningful occasion that allowed us to deeply appreciate the significance of JCCNC’s mission and the strength of the bonds we share with everyone.
