Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California (The Center)が主催する清掃活動に、JCCNCは創設時より協賛・後援し、積極的に参加してまいりました。この取り組みは、歴史を尊重し、文化遺産を継承する重要な活動として、私たちのコミュニティの絆を深める役割を果たしています。

この活動を通じて、1860年に太平洋を渡った咸臨丸の乗組員3名をはじめ、多くの日系人・日本人が永眠されているColma市の日系人墓地を手入れし、Memorial Day（5月26日）の慰霊祭に備えます。

ぜひ、日系人コミュニティや日本総領事館、そして多くの日本人ボランティアとともに清掃活動にご参加ください。

Colmaの天候について:

この時期、Colmaの天候は予測が難しいことがあります。朝は霧が立ち込めて寒くなることが多いですが、昼間には急に太陽が出て暖かくなる場合があります。気温の変化に対応できるよう、重ね着ができる服装をおすすめします。

持参物:

• 清掃用手袋（庭作業用の少し厚手の手袋が最適です）

• 帽子または頭を覆うもの（日焼け防止用）

• 日焼け止め（任意）

• タオル（汗拭き用）

• 水筒（現地では大型ディスペンサーで飲料水が提供されます）

• 重ね着用のジャケット（寒い朝や昼間の暖かさに対応するため）

現地で配布されるもの:

• お弁当（ランチ）

• 飲料水

• 清掃用具

登録された方にはランチが用意されます。登録されていない場合、お弁当のご提供ができない場合がございますのでご注意ください。

2025 Colma Cemetery Cleanup Volunteer Registration

Volunteer for Colma Japanese Cemetery Clean-Up Day

The Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California (The Center) has organized this cleanup activity for many years, and JCCNC has supported it since its inception through sponsorship, cooperation, and active participation. This initiative serves as a vital opportunity to honor history, preserve cultural heritage, and strengthen the bonds within our community.

During this activity, we will clean the Japanese Cemetery in Colma, where many Japanese and Japanese Americans—including three crew members of the Kanrin Maru, who crossed the Pacific in 1860—are laid to rest, in preparation for the Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony on May 26.

We warmly invite you to join the Japanese American community, Consulate General of Japan, and other dedicated volunteers in this meaningful cleanup effort.

Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm

RSVP Deadline: Wednesday, May 7, 2025, by 5:00 PM

Weather Conditions in Colma:

During this season, the weather in Colma can be unpredictable. Mornings often begin with chilly fog, making it quite cold. However, as the day progresses, the sun may suddenly appear, leading to warmer conditions by midday. We recommend dressing in layers to adapt to these changing temperatures.

What to bring:

• Gardening or work gloves (durable gloves are recommended)

• Hat or head covering (for sun protection)

• Sunscreen (optional)

• Towel (for perspiration)

• Refillable water bottle (water will be provided in large dispensers)

• Layered jacket (to prepare for chilly mornings and potential midday warmth)

Provided on-site:

• Bento box lunch

• Drinking water

• Cleaning tools

Registered participants will receive lunch. Unfortunately, we cannot provide bento lunches to those who have not registered in advance.
